Hello,
Like most of you, I'm just a normal person. I started running about 8 years ago as a way to "get in shape". Almost 20 years ago I was a college basketball player, was always athletic, but I got older the days of basketball were beyond me. Living in Arizona, I played golf, mountain biked, and stayed active, until after a work training event a friend, who had run 6 marathons, suggested I couldn't run a half marathon. I hung up the phone with him, put on a pair of beat up running shoes and ran from my house a half mile and back. When I arrived at my front yard, I proceeded to puke all over, I was hooked. No one was gonna tell me I can't run a half marathon. Bought new running shoes and looked on line for a race and a training program, thus the journey began. My first race was in Phoenix, I was surrounded by other runners and the start was electric, it was the pregame feeling I had remembered from high school and college. Turned on the music and ran. It was early morning and the sun was rising as I saw people cheering, I absorbed the landscape, the feel of my heart and mind exploding with joy all the way to the finish where they then gave me a medal. When was the next race? can I run a full marathon? how many can I do? All questions that I wanted to explore.
I did run a marathon, I have run many races, I have a PR, and I have gained many friends along the way. Like everything, there are challenges along the way, bumps in the preverbal road, but learning from those mistakes and future mistakes are what make us, well us. Running is about doing something for yourself. Someone can't run the miles for you, only you can get yourself up and out to and challenge yourself.
The idea of this website and the features it will bring is be that community to learn from, cheer with, brag to and find that next challenge. What are your goals? Do you want to do something that you didn't think you could? It's not about being the fastest or doing the most races, start with one race, one mile, that's more than most people do in everyday life.
